Abstract | Ethiopia is an important centre of diversification for different crops, including tetraploid wheat (Triticum turgidum), whose variation could provide useful breeding traits, including, environmental stability, drought and low temperature stress tolerance. Nine populations of durum wheat, from three environmentally contrasting regions of Ethiopia (Tigray, Gonder and Shewa), were analysed by SSRs markers in order to verify the presence of LD and to detect loci with reduced variation, possibly as consequence of selective sweeps. Results indicated the existence of high linkage disequilibrium among loci and the presence of some selective sweeps in chromosome 4A sequences, close to loci (QTL) previously identified as related to drought tolerance. Their intensity was different in the different populations and regions. |
