University degree In Biological Sciences, University of Rome "La Sapienza", 1987. Thesis in River Ecology.
Master in "Management of Aquatic Resources" University of Rome "Tor Vergata", 1994.
Research and fields of interest:
Aquatic Ecology, Bio-indication, Conservation of Biodiversity, Protected areas, Sustainable tourism, Tools for Sustainability. Characterization and ecological quality assessments concerning freshwater and transitional ecosystems. Analysis of biotic communities in aquatic ecosystems. Ecological requirements of 'running water' habitats. Red lists. Use of biological indicators, macroinvertebrate communities in rivers and streams, application of indexes of ecological quality and functionality in lotic ecosystems for maps regarding environmental quality. Study of the processes of decomposition of allochthonous detritus in lotic systems. Analyses using bio-indicators are also applied in transitional waters, primarily through application of marine biotic indexes to macroinvertebrate benthic communities in order to define the ecological status of coastal lagoons and coastal lakes. Moreover, the research include aspects of Conservation considering the application of the Directive "Water" and "Habitat" in Sites of Community Importance (SCI) of European Network Natura 2000. Environmental Conservation in relation to impact assessment in Natura 2000 sites. Collaborations with Research Institutes, Universities, Scientific Organizations, Public Administration, Environmental Agencies, and others, in Italy and abroad by participating in projects and initiatives chiefly inherent to Aquatic Ecology, Environmental education, International Conventions and Policy regarding biodiversity in third countries, Policy on aquatic ecosystem assessments, Stakeholder engagement.
