Abstract

This work reports on the development of Raman lidar techniques to measure cloud and aerosol properties involved in the determination of aerosol indirect effect, such as the extinction, liquid water content, droplet size distribution and number density. The study of these physical properties will bring to a better understanding of the aerosol indirect effect and the role that Raman lidars play. A preliminary study of Raman lidar techniques to retrieve cloud liquid water contents will be shown together with a technique to calibrate the liquid water-mixing ratio. This study is part of a broader research by the author towards her PhD studies at the University of Maryland Baltimore County.
