Abstract

Laser-induced fluorescence is used as a diagnostic tool for testing the tuning between a longitudinal mode of a nitrogen-pumped dye laser and a uranium spectroscopic level in an atomic beam. According to a simple resonator model, the tuning instabilities can be ascribed to thermal drifts in the dye-laser system. Problems encountered in attempting a single mode scanning are also described. © 1986 Springer-Verlag.
